We are committed to high ethical standards, as codified in Cheniere’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. It is our policy that no Company funds or assets can be used to make a political contribution to any political party or candidate, unless approval has been given by the Chief Compliance and Ethics officer, or their delegate. We seek to align our political engagement efforts with our mission to provide secure and affordable energy to the world. We engage in a nonpartisan way, focusing our efforts on safety and environmental responsibility within the energy industry. These efforts include participating in industry associations, lobbying and contributing through the Cheniere Energy, Inc. Political Action Committee or directly as permitted by law. We expect employees to conduct all political engagement activities in compliance with applicable state and federal laws, as well as company policies. Cheniere has historically not made any independent political expenditures in support of or in opposition to political campaigns.
Engagement and lobbying
We believe natural gas plays a crucial role in facilitating a smooth transition to a low-carbon economy. Engaging in state and federal rule-making processes, we advocate for environmental regulations that improve industry safety and reduce our environmental impact. Cheniere fully discloses its federal lobbying expenditures through the United States House of Representatives Clerk database. Contributions made via the Cheniere PAC are disclosed in the Federal Election Commission database, demonstrating our commitment to transparency and regulatory compliance.
In addition to our advocacy efforts, we collaborate with federal agencies to promote consistency and standardization in their requirements. This strategic collaboration aims to support our ability to meet customer delivery timelines while enhancing energy security. Our approach reflects our commitment to navigate regulatory environments in a manner that aligns with our business objectives and contributes to the broader goals of promoting consistency and enhancing energy sector security.
Corporate political contributions
Cheniere may also consider corporate contributions to political candidates, parties, and committees, tax-exempt political organizations, advocacy groups, ballot measures, and independent political expenditures in direct support of or in opposition to a campaign. Any contributions of corporate funds are made in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, company policies, and Cheniere’s Code of Conduct.
Trade associations and memberships
We partner with industry, trade and business associations to advocate for our viewpoints on critical industry issues. As leaders in large-scale LNG operations in the U.S., we leverage our expertise to improve the safety and environmental aspects of LNG through our participation in trade associations. Our contributions offer valuable insights and recommendations on assorted topics, including climate, energy security and economics. For a detailed list of our industry associations, please consult Cheniere Energy Memberships and Trade Associations.
