Cheniere believes education is the foundation of a strong community, so we look for ways to enhance educational opportunities for individuals. In addition to numerous scholarships and youth outreach activities, Cheniere sponsors other events that make quality educational programs more readily available.
in November 2012, Cheniere Energy sponsored, through the Coastal Bend Bays Foundation, a field trip of more than 100 students from three local schools to Shamrock Island in Corpus Christi Bay. Students, faculty, and administrators from Ingleside Blaschke-Sheldon Elementary School, Corpus Christi Martin Middle School, and Aransas Pass High School visited Shamrock Island to learn more about the importance of the island as a natural resource for plants and animals, to understand efforts that are underway to restore and conserve the island, to evaluate the flora and fauna and water quality at the island, and to conduct a cleanup of the shoreline. Representatives of Cheniere Energy and The Nature Conservancy made presentations to the students about their respective efforts to protect and restore Shamrock Island. The students gained valuable insight into the unique nature of Shamrock Island and learned about the types of organizations and efforts that it takes to preserve and protect it.
In May 2009 Cheniere presented scholarships to the graduating class of the Johnson Bayou High School. These scholarships are eligible for use at colleges or technical schools. As of the fall of 2009 Cheniere was proud to have funded seven of the scholarships to the graduating seniors of Johnson Bayou High.
We are annual sponsors of the Marshland Festival in Lake Charles, LA. This unique event draws youth organizations and their families from Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes to a fun-filled weekend of live entertainment, games and Cajun food. The Festival was created to foster community involvement and camaraderie while providing a venue for students in the area to raise money for school programs. This is a well received and attended event that raises thousands of dollars for school organizations every year.
Cheniere was a proud sponsor of the Texas State Aquarium's 2006 Beach Ball Fund Raiser, benefiting education and conservation activities for the leading organization dedicated to showcasing the rich marine life of the Gulf of Mexico.
